The United Nations Anti-Corruption Convention

The Convention entered into force on the 14th December 2005.  While the prosecution of offences of corruption is essential, it is even more important to prevent corruption.  This is why this Convention dedicates a whole chapter to prevention. Measures against corruption have to be taken in both the public and the private sectors.  The contracting parties are also bound to render mutual legal assistance by gathering and transferring evidence to be used in court proceedings in other countries. They  have also agreed to recover assets which have been lost through corruption.
